Physical Appearance:
A young nation that has yet to reach even her first millennium, her physical appearance has not quite lost touch with her childhood features. Her heart-shaped face and subtle curves give off an air of maturity but dark brown eyes lit with childish joy and a gentle smile brought about by the simplest pleasures brings to her a certain childhood innocence often lost in adulthood. Like many human teenagers approaching adulthood, Cambodia is within her own transition state, both physically and mentally, that leaves behind an odd mix of adult and child features mixed together.
In reflection to the natives of her land, Cambodia shares their dark eyes and even darker hair. These locks of hair however are cut in an uneven manner and her bangs even more so which alone gives the image of a poor, street child. Were it not for the color of her skin, a tone much lighter compared to the skin of street orphans, she could be mistaken as a peasant living on the streets. Beyond just her physical appearance though it is her quick movements that would remind most of a street thief. Her limbs, short as they may be compared to those of the well-fed Europeans, move in subtle, silent manners with a grace learned only of the years of dancing she practiced. While her body may be young and malnourished her manner of walking and poise in the eyes of strangers force an awkward maturity that is paper thin.
This transitioning state between childhood and adulthood is not to be seen as the only thing that plays heavily in her physical appearance. Like the people of her country she has always gone through life looking much younger than her age, especially when compared to those of the Barang, or white, world. Years of malnutrition and hard times, both financially and in terms of morals, have resulted in leaving behind a female that cannot grow properly. A thin waist envied by other females who are not quite so slim was caused by starvation under the hand of the Khmer Rouge. Her short height and small bones are due to the malnutrition as well as the taxing physical labor she was forced into only thirty years ago. Her innocent smile caused only by the savoring of the simple things that were snatched away from her years ago.
One thing to be noted that is large in marring the girl’s physical appearance are the scars that run all along her back. Just as the Khmer Rouge played a hand in making her physical appearance desirable, it also played a hand in causing a physical reminder upon her body that brings to mind things that are better left forgotten. The scars are deep in more than just a few ways and have yet to heal over fully. There is no particular pattern or image hidden within them, only a senseless piece of flesh much like the reasoning behind the violence her people were forced through. The bombing that America brought to her lands during the Vietnam War have also contributed to this. Occasionally her face will pull into a wince and her teeth will bite into her lip; this is a clear sign that the scars are irritating her and causing her pain once more. It is also to be noted that she is covered in other small scars and marks due to hard labor but the ones upon her back are the ones to be truly noticed.
In terms of fashion Cambodia has learned from her people the custom of hiding a good deal of her flesh at all times, even when swimming. Her everyday outfit consists usually of a soft, blue sarong scattered with a motif of golden leaves and a simple blouse, often a light type of color rather than dark. When she isn’t running about barefooted then her feet are adorned with a pair of flip flops that cannot be seen considering the length of her sarong. The female can also be seen often with some type of parasol nearby to hide her, what is considered to be pale among the locals in Cambodia though in reality she is a few tones darker than a European, skin from the damaging effects of the sun’s rays.
Animal Forms:
Marbled Cat. In Cambodia's humanoid form of this animal her eyes take on the variations of green and sometimes amber eye-color of the species. Despite her small stature she becomes smaller yet though not by much in reflection to the size of the feline. The nails upon her fingers disappear in place of claws at the tips of her fingers and toes which are retractable and aiding in the physical transformation of something more cat-like, her feet take on a more pronounced arch. This arch gives her the appearance of “prowling” so to speak but in truth it is a trait more designed for balance as is the long tail she takes on. Finishing off her humanoid form of the Marbled Cat are the small, chocolate brown ears protruding from her skull.
Sambar Doe. A small deer native to Cambodia, in this form the female nation holds true to her natural size but her posture becomes noticeably more refined. Eyes become a lighter shade of brown as does her hair until it is something more similar to a tawny color than the usual black. Something about her seems to become more alert to her surrounding environment and the nation constantly twitches in some manner under the influence of a Sambar Doe. Large ears protrude from her head and are often found to be swiveling back and forth. Though it is not always visibly noticeable when compared to the rest of her, she has a small tail with a white underside that is nearly as lively as her ears.
Sun Bear. Veata's Sun Bear form is the only animal form that she takes on completely as compared to the other two in which she retains many human traits. When a Sun Bear she is the size of a young cub only three-months-old and bears the typical gold markings upon the chest characteristic to the species. Physically it is impossible to distinguish her from other Sun Bear cubs: she shares with them the same brown fur, golden markings, and unusually long tongue that aids in the uniqueness of the species. Even her eyes do nothing to signal that she is human; they do not change color in any manner but instead become round and wide-set in accordance with the same glazed look of any bear. Only her unusual behavior would flag the truth of her humanity.

Personality:
A girl that hides behind the mask of tradition and culture, Cambodia presents herself a quiet and often soft-spoken female in the eyes of those that do not know her. She is polite with her calm demeanor, shy with her flickering eyes that will never meet the eyes of an older nation, respectful with the slight bow of her head. To those that do not know her well she is a quiet little deer that brings a smile to their faces to think about this little girl that has yet to grow fully in the world. She is the ideal Khmer woman at first sight; a woman that walks without a noise, that smiles without showing her teeth, that speaks without revealing a loud voice.
As time passes on though and those around her step a little closer to her heart they find first impressions truly can’t be trusted. With small baby steps she will begin to reveal a little more of her true self to those that she deems suitable friends and allies. It is a process that takes months instead of weeks, sometimes extending as far as years, to get Cambodia to reveal who she truly is. It isn’t something that she is comfortable with which reflects her own self consciousness. Who she is doesn’t always fit well with the image of the ideal Khmer woman; it is a knowledge that often makes her feel ashamed. True, there are certain traits about that do fit well with the ideal but more often than not her true thoughts and actions would be looked down upon by elders.
Cambodia is indeed a respectful child that understands her boundaries. To elders she will bow her head slightly and never will she look them, or any male for that matter, in the eye. Her footsteps are light but only when she remembers how she is meant to properly walk and while her voice isn’t as soft-spoken as the people of her nation wish it would be, she isn’t the most boisterous or loud female there is. No, what truly sets her apart from the Khmer ideal is her way of thinking and her personality. She will not allow herself to be bullied and ordered around by anyone, not even an older man, nor will she tolerate being treated like a mere possession like many of the women in Cambodia do.
The nation is playful still despite her age as well as eager to continue to learn and expand her world in terms of academics. She is a hard working nation that throws her all into everything she does. She is passionate about what she loves and will not be the type of female to give up too easily. When a person can pull the mask away from that fabricated image of herself they will find a bright and cheerful girl albeit confused in this modernizing world. The female wants to be the ideal Khmer woman, an aspara, but she finds herself struggling with this in the modernizing world. She has an education, something unheard of between females before, she thinks and argues against men, something frowned upon, but more importantly she is wandering away from the path of her ancestors.
With each passing day spent with her a little more insight to the female’s personality is gained. She is shy but not in the typical way that people think of shy; she has no trouble making friends or introducing herself to others but she is shy in letting them too close in fear that they will judge what she is truly like. When she is allowed around those that she knows love her she reveals a young female still learning her place in the world. Sometimes she is confused but pride prevents her from asking for help. Instead she prefers to give advice and to guide others through their own troublesome times rather than face her own dark ghosts and devils. She is an awkward nation that is still growing into her own skin. This makes her extremely self conscious as well and many a thought are spent on examining what others think of her.
To loved ones she is protective, to enemies she holds large grudges that are not easily forgotten. When she is happy there is something about her lithe form that alerts others to it. When she is sad she will not frown but will instead express what she feels through the smallest, physical movements. Nothing about her is seemingly upfront in her words and the only way to decipher the girl is to look to her face. She does not hide what she feels or thinks upon her facial expressions. Cambodia is also seen as an extremely optimistic child despite her hardships. Her strong will to live will not allow for the young female to give up and like the people of her home, she faces each and every day with a bright smile despite her dark past. She would give up everything she has and is for the knowledge that those she loves the most will always be protected throughout their lives even after she is long gone.
Fears:
Loud Noises. Loud noises and essentially any type of sound similar to that of gunshots or bombs of some sort frighten Cambodia past the point of irrationality. The nation has yet to recover from the years of bombing suffered under American hands and the numerous landmines left upon her grounds during the Khmer Rouge years. For her that was the noisy background of so many memories and so much pain. Hearing anything similar to that brings her back to those recent years of terror and genocide, causing her to lose sight of herself once more. The process of healing has just barely begun in this century and it seems like it will be some time before the nation will recover fully.
Spirits. Cambodia is extremely superstitious and with her superstitions comes the belief in spirits. Most spirits in general do not bother Cambodia in the slightest; it is only the vengeful ones that will have her cowering in a perceived safe place. Those she feared when they were living she fears even more so when dead. Their death offers no peace to the nation as she is firm in her belief that their sins cause them to remain as evil spirits in this world and worse yet, the belief that these spirits may come to harm her at some point. As far as the nation is concerned, there shall be no peace for her until all of the spirits are laid to rest.
Abandonment. In the past Cambodia feels that she has been left behind numerous times by various nations despite the truth of the reality. The father-figure of her life, the Khmer Empire, abandoned her through his death at the hands of Thailand. Thailand took her in only to give her up time and time again; sometimes for protection and other times simply for the sake of watching her in pain as far as she was concerned. Vietnam came and went again as often as Thailand did but the pain she caused was worse as this fellow nation was her savior during the Khmer Rouge. At a time France had taken her in as his charge but had signed her away easily enough when Japan came during the second world war and even Japan abandoned her soon enough. Being left behind so many times eventually piled up inside of Veata until it rooted firmly as a seed of perceived fear in her mind.
Expectations. Perhaps one of her greatest fears lies in what she believes others expect of her and what she expects of herself. As one of the poorest and most underdeveloped nations in the world Cambodia has suffered through many hardships but the one that brings about the greatest hardships is the Khmer Rouge though it came to an official end thirty years ago. Many around her expect her to have healed completely both physically and mentally though the truth is anything but that. Perhaps with the gift of more aid and support from surrounding nations a more stable situation could be reached but that has yet to occur despite the millions of dollars that have gone towards her well-being. It is her own corruption and weakness that bars her from reaching out to become the head-strong nation that rises again even after the fire of genocide. The disappointment of not being able to become everything that she wants to become and what the others want her to become twists her stomach so much so to the point of being physically sick. In truth she would rather that nobody expected anything of her.
Weaknesses:
Dependent. As one of the poorest and most underdeveloped nations in the world Cambodia is very dependent on the aid and kindness of other nations for her survival. Even the years prior to the Khmer Rouge she had looked to other nations for necessities that she couldn't create on her own as an agricultural nation. These years now though she needs nearly everything that could possibly be expected in life in the form of aid from other governments. It is impossible for her to be self-supporting and even her agricultural skills seem to be failing here. This leaves her with nothing more than a tourism industry to bring in her paycheck but this is not nearly enough for her to survive on. At this point in time it does not seem like it will ever be possible for Cambodia to be able to live on her own two feet.
Pathological Liar. Though she does not even realize it herself, Cambodia has quite some issues when it comes to lying. It is an unconscious habit of hers to tell that which isn't true even in cases where lying would neither benefit nor hurt her. It is simply something that she has picked up over the years and can't seem to overcome regardless of who she is speaking to and the nature of their conversation. In some situations it has been what has saved her life and in others it pushes others away from her and stirs up some distrust as well. This issue has even gotten to the point where it is quite possible for the nation to lie to herself unknowingly.
Selfish. The Kingdom of Cambodia is a nation that has a tendency to be undeniably selfish. She doesn't enjoy doing something if she cannot see how she could possibly benefit from it and there have been many incidents in which she has flat-out refused to do something if it doesn't please her, even if the request is coming from a loved one. It simply isn't her nature to do something that doesn't even hint at the reaping of benefits. The benefit in itself does not matter so long as it is something that does work towards her favor no matter how small or big.
Grudges. With a tendency to hold grudges over any little thing coupled with her patience the result is anything but positive. Cambodia will recall the wrongs committed upon her for the years to follow after the incident and she is not one to forget or forgive so easily. She leans more toward dragging everything out until she feels she's been given what she wants or simply becomes tired of holding the grudge because it is keeping her from doing what she wants to do. If there is any chance though that bringing up what was done to her may provide for her well-being she will jump right back into it. It is almost as if her mind is a storage of files of everything that's gone wrong in the off-chance that they can be used later on. Is it unhealthy? Certainly, but that isn't stopping Cambodia.
Indirect. Due to her overall pathetic standing with others Cambodia does not work very well with direct confrontations. For all her bluffs and lies she is actually intimated quite easily when it comes to the other nations and she realizes that it is probably best to at least attempt to avoid getting on their bad sides. It is hard to wheedle out of the female her true feelings for anything at all when she doesn't want others to know of it. Only those who are closest to her and understand the workings of her mind can spot the red flags that scream when she is actually quite displeased with a decision that she agreed upon with others. Her indirectness often stands in the way of allowing others to see and help her towards her goals.
Forcibly Submissive. This is a very selective weakness geared towards males for the most part as she has no issue with throwing her weight around when it's just other females hanging around. The mentality that she was raised with as a child was the stereotypical one in which males were the dominant masters of the world and under only the most extreme circumstances should they be disobeyed. Wanting to be the good daughter that her “father” could be impossibly proud of, Cambodia pushes towards being submissive for most males. She doesn't always achieve this goal which can be a bad thing but it can also be a good thing. Too submissive and she begins to bite her tongue and hold back her thoughts, begins to throw up a wall between herself and the male mixed with quite a bit of bitterness.
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. This is a type of disorder that is very common in the elder halves of Cambodia's population and is linked to her own Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Many events and sins transpired during those four years of genocide, some she even partook in though the government at that time wasn't even aware of her and couldn't possibly press her into doing anything. Just as she committed her own sins to bear though she suffered in her own ways. For thirty years she has suffered even more as the nightmares often come in the night and during a good deal of the day she is drawn back to those bloody fields. This disorder stops her a good deal of the time from leading life normally and it is only when the generation of Cambodians who lived during those times die that her disorder will most likely leave as well.
Inexperienced. Cambodia can be quite experienced but it is often in all the wrong ways. For her it is normal to understand everything there is to survival in the wild jungles to survival in unfair fights but she can speak almost nothing of the Western world. Much of what has existed for years there is completely brand new to her and often very limited. Her lack of knowledge is a danger to herself and gives off the idea that she is, simply put, a very stupid, uncivilized female. Cambodia will often get herself dragged into trouble because she doesn't understand the modernized, Western world.
Strengths:
Pradal Serey. A form of kickboxing unique to Cambodia, this style focuses more on a kicking technique geared towards winning a match quickly. It is a well-done reflection of Cambodia's general fighting style: she aims to end quickly and to win. In recent years however she has given up on constantly practicing this art and takes to it only every now and then to reassure herself that some form of fighting is still known to her muscles. The nation does practice enough though that she could hold her own for at least the first five minutes against some of the larger nations in hand-to-hand combat.
Relentless. Cambodia is relentless almost to a fault. She won't give up easily on anything that she decides should be done or something she wants. It is partially the reason that she is still alive even to this day. Raised under the Khmer Empire she was taught that persistence falls through and in times of need, she must never give up. If it is necessary she must adapt her goals to the situation but she mustn't ever give up. These were the words the empire would whisper to hear each night and idolizing him, the young nation took his words to heart. Sentimental as it may sound, in a sense her persistence is an honor to his memory.
Respectful. Where respect is deserved in terms of status it will be given by default. A good deal of the Khmer society centers around status and the respect that is given to each status. Simply by being older than Cambodia respect will be given on a default though it does not guarantee that the respect will remain. There is respect to be given freely because certain conditions are met but there is respect to be earned, a personal respect that must be developed rather than given. If it should fail that one fails to be deserving of any sort of respect Cambodia's own respect for that being will fade in due time. There is only so much even she will be willing to do for another.
Open-minded. Contradicting to what one would expect of somebody so in favor of tradition Cambodia is rather open-minded. She does not believe in judgment of the unusual and in some cases, even welcomes such things into her home and culture with open arms. As she believes that it is in her best interest to be understanding she presses to do so but this also calls for her to be naturally open-minded. Depending on the current King upon the throne this may or may not be encouraged but her most recent King seems to share an agreement with her that it is best to open themselves up to the world no matter how unusual it may seem and as he wishes this, the nation walks along with this wish quite eagerly. She has always enjoyed learning new things.
Loyalty. Make an ally out of Cambodia and perhaps the greatest of her strengths can be found: loyalty. The nation is extremely loyal to those she has aligned herself with or chosen to befriend and will not be quick to leave or betray them. Even in situations where she herself has been betrayed by a nation her loyalty will remain though in terms of personal relationships heavy damage may be taken. It isn't in her nature to allow for emotions to stand in the way of an objective promise or oath that was made. No matter how Cambodia may have been hurt she does not believe in breaking her word to another and will remain faithful all the same.
Creative. Survival needs play some part in this particular strength but a far good deal is more of her mind's natural ability. The nation for a large portion of her life has always been forced to live on very limited resources that aren't the best in the world or even in the area of Southeast Asia. For this reason she has had to develop various methods and ways of thinking to ensure the safety of her survival whether it be economically or quite literally. She has learned how to take that which she has to work with and making the best of it. One example of this would be her recent use of bomb casings often found after a landmine has gone off; she has taken this object that has caused countless nightmares and morphed it into a jewelry that can be sold to help stimulate the economy.

History:
The nation of Cambodia is perhaps best known as the inheritor of the Khmer empire, or Angkor civilization, legacy. She is seen as the daughter of this fallen empire and as such she is often looked on as the embodiment of her father figure’s dreams and goals. Born sometime in the thirteenth or fourteenth century, the exact year remains unknown even to herself, her birth was the signal of the end of the Khmer empire. Knowing and understanding this Angkor still raised the girl as his successor so that she would continue to carry on the traditions and culture of his people long after his death. When he died later in the fourteenth century he left behind a nation that was determined to follow in his footsteps.
It would seem that his apparent successor wasn’t the glorified and strong nation he once was though. Cambodia was significantly weaker than her predecessor, she did not have the financial stability or military strength that her father did. This made her susceptible to the attacks brought on by neighboring countries Thailand and Vietnam, the killers of her father. The moment that Angkor fell both nations moved in and thus began the bitter treatment over the significantly smaller nation. Many years were spent watching as her capital was ransacked first by Thailand then Vietnam in a repetitious cycle that lasted for centuries.
Over the next few hundred years the royal family of Cambodia, her kings, would first ally themselves to one nation while another member of the family allied themselves to the other nation. But no matter which nation it was that the King allied himself to, Cambodia was always under the influence and custody of either Thailand or Vietnam. While Thailand brought himself closer to the young nation, winning her favor with sweet presents and gifts as well as guidance, Vietnam did nothing more than to cause bitter resentment in the younger female. She did not enjoy being passed back and forth between the two nations which led to her eventual cries of help directed towards a foreigner that had come to visit her home once, France.
Knowing that Cambodia was suffering from the constant attacks made to her home by Thailand and Vietnam, France stepped into the picture and took the nation under his wing and in the year 1863, after centuries of fighting at the hand of her neighboring countries, Cambodia became a part of what was to be known as Indochina. Under the protection of France the attacks on either side of her borders were forced to a standstill as each became a part of Indochina. For a time she was happy and enjoyed a time of peace but as each day passed she found herself growing a little more and more restless. The memory and pledge that she had made to the empire that she had made her father burned strongly still in her mind. She was not fulfilling her promise to him of carrying on his great legacy and France was beginning to misunderstand and misinterpret the young nation. This was a source of discomfort and tension between the two as time wore on.
Cambodia was not the only one to be discontented with the presence of France in her home as it would seem later on. The other nations pledged into Indochina also found themselves discontented with the blonde nation that didn’t seem to understand their needs and wants. There were whispers of revolt, or ridding their nations of this Barang, white man, nation. France had overstayed his welcome in the Asian nations and was just unfit to pursue what they wanted out of him and so on November 9th, 1953, not even quite a century after he took Cambodia in, the nation demanded independence. France at this time was more than willing to let go of the little girl that caused so much violence among his people and so her independence came quietly.
Before this time came though there was another world event that brought even more instability to Indochina, World War II. The nations now had to deal with not only the presence of France in their homes but also the presence of Japan. Each nation held some bitterness over this except for only little nation, Cambodia. She took better to this new man, this male who looked more similar to her than France did, and welcomed him into her home. The two nations took well to one another and got along splendidly. Japan took good care of her, watched after the much younger female, but he also encouraged her to take her freedom and step away from France. He was to be one of the driving forces behind Cambodia’s demand for independence even as she allowed Japan to continue to visit and stay in her home.
With her newfound freedom Cambodia enjoyed a brief bout of independence and stability but that was not to last. A group of men better known as the Khmer Rouge were beginning to rise up on her borders, discontent with the royal family that she had immersed herself in for years. They left her home and traveled to China and Vietnam to train themselves in the communist ways and ideals. This seemingly weak political group was soon to become the source of years of nightmares and pains that she still suffers through today.
When the Khmer Rouge came back to her home they came back home armed with weapons provided to them by the Chinese and Vietnamese. Within days they forcibly took over her home and began a mass genocide of her people. Anybody not of Khmer descent was forcibly expelled or more than likely killed. Innocent people, educated people, corrupted people; anybody who was not part of the Khmer Rouge or had even lived in large cities like Phnom Penh began to die in droves. The year was 1975 when the communists took over with the support of China and Vietnam.
For four years Cambodia hid in the safety of the jungle as often as she could, constantly on the move to hide herself from the Khmer Rouge soldiers who would kill her simply because of her education. None of them knew just what she was to their people but even if they had known there was no doubt in her mind they would have killed her anyways in order to erase their pasts and start anew. There came a few months though where she was successfully forced into a camp but using any means of survival, she would find her way out. For four years the young female saw things that were never meant to be seen, scarring things that left her mentally unstable during this time. Soldiers shooting the children of her people, children killing their own parents to survive, people starved, beaten, raped every single day and not allowed even a day’s rest until death. She watched helplessly as the mass genocide that killed nearly 3 million people occurred before her very eyes. During this time the only way to describe her was in a simple word, broken.
The arrival of Vietnam in 1979 was a welcome thing. Relying on her older sister, Cambodia stood back and watched quietly as the much stronger nation forced out the men that had made her life a living Hell. She watched on with a sense of bitter sweetness, knowing that this would lead to nothing more than Vietnamese occupation in her home once again. All she had one was trade in one dictator for a kinder dictator but at this point, she was so weak that there was nothing left for her to do.
Years passed and Vietnam eventually packed up and left her home after what was known as the Third Indochina War. The relationship between the two had begun to strain again much in the similar way that Cambodia’s relationship with her old lover, Thailand had. There were times that she still felt that she loved the male, still times that she allowed him close, but for the most part she did nothing but fight with him and her older sister. Both stepped out of her home, finally allowing the nation the freedom from other nations that she had been waiting on for more than a millennium.

Enemies and Rivals?:
Despite the years that Cambodia and Thailand spent together she nurtures to this very day a hatred against him that began with the death of the Khmer Empire at his hand. Thailand doesn't seem to show nearly as much dislike or any at all towards her though so the emotions often come off as one-sided. In her head she has come to perceive the male nation as an enemy even worse than Vietnam but more interestingly enough, she holds a very tsundere view with him. For all her snappy remarks and constant fights with Thailand alongside claims that he is the worst thing that ever stepped into her life, parts of her are very dependent upon his existence. She may claim to hate him and make him out to be her rival but in truth there is some affection for him deep, deep down inside.
RP Sample:
As hard as she tried not to the gentle smile that pressed at her lips was not to be hidden and tucked away where no one could see it. How long had it been since the nation had even had a reason to smile this hard much less feel the need to conceal it from the wandering eyes of a passerby? And it was all because of one simple nation that she hadn’t even wanted to associate herself with just a matter of some years ago. If somebody had tried to convince Cambodia after that very first meeting with Denmark that she would one day soon end up waiting for the male nation in a hotel lobby just to spend a simple day with him she would have laughed it off in that person’s face. She was a nation recovering from a genocide that had killed 1.7 million of her people; she didn’t have time to just laze about and most certainly not with what she had assumed to be some idiotic, loudmouth that didn’t give a damn about the rest of the world or what had been done to her. Twenty years ago she had waved the other off as another idiotic Barang that would have been of no help to her; look at where she was now.
Cambodia turned her face away, focusing on the texture of one of the foreign plants inside of the room, and hiding herself away long enough to allow the smile dominance over her face. As it had turned out Denmark was that insane, loudmouth male she had initially thought him to be but as the time had worn on she had found something different about him that she hadn’t expected even once; compassion. As far as the nation had concerned herself that day, she didn’t need Denmark constantly coming around to her country and pestering her people that still needed healing. What could he have possibly offered her people that they could have actually used? He was a foreigner from a world completely separate from her own, he wouldn’t care or even begin to understand what had occurred her to so many innocent people…At least, that had been her initial thought.
Weeks later when the female had come across the male in one of the rural villages she had been struck quiet by the sight of him. He had held himself with a confusion of absolute cluelessness with a mix of desperateness as he had struggled with a few of the villagers. The male nation had kept gesturing towards some odd bottles, pouring out a gel-like substance pressed into an ovular shape. It had taken her a bit of time but she had eventually recognized them as Western medicine, pills that could help aid in staving off disease. That day he had worn such a pained expression with worried eyes; it had felt like he really did care about what was happening to the villagers that didn’t understand the use of such trivial, Western things. Cambodia hadn’t been sure of how to react to seeing sympathy in the eyes of somebody that couldn’t even begin to realize the trouble of the Khmer Rouge, not after having learned to live only for herself under the hand of Pol Pot, but it had been enough to allow the male for another chance in her eyes.
And here she was now, closer to Denmark than she had ever expected to be. It turned out that he certainly had his idiotic moments but that did nothing to dim down how passionate he was. This wasn’t the type of nation that just dipped himself lightly into the water, he was the one that threw himself in completely. The impression she got from him was either all or nothing when it came down to the core of it. Something like that took a certain amount on independence, a dash of strength that she had yet to gain in her years as a nation. It was amazing to just watch the nation place himself against the corrupted officials of her home and demand that something be down with morality. Cambodia wasn’t nearly strong enough to try a dangerous stunt like that but she certainly appreciated the concern and protectiveness he gave to her after watching four years of a world where only the strong could survive on their own.
With a simple shake of her head Cambodia forced the smile down as her eyes flickered towards the stairs. Much as she was coming to accept Denmark as a friend closer to her than just a helping hand, she was going to give him a scolding for his lack of punctuality.
